Self Interview - Metaphor

Q. How important is metaphor in your work?

A. William Blake was the first poet I was interested in. At school, we had a book containing poetry that we had to study. The poem was "Oh Rose, Thou Art Sick". This was the beginning of my love for poetry. Poetry was a way of altering the way you perceive the world; you begin to understand one thing in terms of another, which make visible connections between seemingly disparate things.

Much like dream interpretation, we each derive our own meanings; semiology within visual information. Our own mythologies, derived from our experiences and perceptions of our universe. I am aware that my work can invoke different memories or thoughts within the viewer. I see connections and meaning through my own veil of experience, others will have theirs...
